HM ABDULLAH II OF JORDAN VISITS BELGIUM |

The King of Jordan Abdullah II met in Brussels on June 18th a group of businessmen and executives of several major European and Belgian companies, with the aim of encouraging them to invest in Jordan.His Majesty underlined the steps and efforts made by Jordan to provide an attractive environment for investments in the Kingdom, and detailed the opportunities offered to attract investments that have a positive impact on the economic development of Jordan.His Majesty presented the various projects the country is working on in the fields of water, energy, transport and housing. He furthermore pointed at the free trade agreements concluded between Jordan and other countries, and to the economic region of Aqaba that makes Jordan an attractive location for investment and a gateway to other markets. HM King Abdullah II also underlined the assets of Jordan, particularly the human factor which is in compliance with the demands of the labour market in various sectors. The European businessmen participating at the meeting expressed their will to cooperate with Jordan and their readiness to assess the opportunity of investment projects in the Kingdom, with the collaboration of the Jordanian private sector.In a statement for the Jordanian television, the Secretary General of the Arab-Belgium-Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Qaisar Hijazin, underlined the importance of the meeting to develop cooperation opportunities. He said that many Belgian and international companies and associations expressed their desire to visit Jordan and to study the investment opportunities there, adding that the trade relations between Belgium and Jordan increased by almost 50% in 2008. Jordan exports to Belgium increased by 37.3% to reach 13.8 million euros and Belgian sales on the Jordanian market grew by 63.7% to 183.5 million euros.
