The 3rd International Yemen Oil, Gas & Minerals Conference
18 – 19 October, 2010 – Sana’a The 3rd International Yemen Oil, Gas & Minerals Conference is a major part of the Government’s strategy to encourage economic growth and development. Decision makers from key government departments will deliver presentations and reveal new initiatives related to projects and incentives. The Conference will be a catalyst for building long-term partnerships in this sector. Participants are coming from international oil and gas companies, energy trading companies, banks and financial institutions, law firms and official organisations. Projects to be announced by the Government include off-shore exploration activities, on-shore production, refinery projects and gas field developments. The latest incentives in production sharing agreements include exemption from import and export duties for the international private sector, enhanced transparency, free transfer of funding and revenues and streamlining of the tendering process. Yemen plans to offer 15 offshore oil exploration blocks to international firms attending the Conference. The Government is thus seeking to boost production to 300,000 barrels per day through increased activity in exploration and production. The country has a considerable potential to become a natural gas exporter as well and success in developing the liquefied natural gas sector is likely to increase opportunities. The future also looks particularly promising for the development of the petrochemical sector, due to strong demand for fertilisers and the availability of large reserves of natural gas. The Government will present major petrochemical projects open to international investors during the conference. The Republic of Yemen is furthermore working hard to develop a practical vehicle for encouraging exploration activities for mineral resources. Deposits such as zinc, iron, lead, gold, silver, copper, sulphur and nickel are known to exist but have not been fully exploited.More information available at the Chamber or through www.iirme.com/yemenoil |
